Visio Companion Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 4, 2026 · Effective: August 4, 2026

Introduction

Thank you for choosing Visio Companion.

Visio Companion (the “App”) is provided and operated by Gilabs (Suzhou) Technology Co., Ltd. (“we,” “us,” or “Gilabs”). The App is the companion mobile application for the Visio family of capture devices (such as hdk_ego, gripper, and glove). It lets you configure a device, preview its camera and sensor streams in real time, control and manage recordings, review recording files and their cloud-upload status, and update device firmware (OTA).

We take your personal information and privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, share, and protect information when you use the App, and the rights you have over that information. Please read it carefully before using the App, paying particular attention to the sections shown in bold.

If you do not agree with any part of this Policy, please stop using the App. By starting or continuing to use the App, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to this Policy.

Key things to know first

1. The App requires no account. We do not collect account-identity information such as your name or phone number.

2. The video, audio, and sensor data shown in the App come from the Visio capture device you connect to — not from your phone’s own camera or microphone. The App does not use your phone’s camera or microphone to take pictures or record audio.

3. The App communicates with the device primarily over local links (USB, the device’s own Wi-Fi hotspot, and LAN mDNS). Recording files are stored locally on your phone and uploaded only to the object storage (such as Alibaba Cloud OSS) that you configure yourself. Unless you point that storage at a bucket we provide, we do not receive your recordings.

1. Information we collect and how we use it

To provide the App’s features, we collect and use the following information when you use the corresponding functions. Except where required by law, we do not collect information unrelated to a specific feature.

1.1 Location information (GPS, optional)

When you record using the “phone recording” feature and grant the location permission, the App reads your precise location (GPS coordinates) to geo-tag the recording so you can find and manage it later. This location is written into the recording file’s (.mcap) metadata, stored locally on your phone, and uploaded only to the object storage you configure. This permission is optional: if you deny it, recording still works normally, just without a geo-tag.

1.2 Local network and Wi-Fi information

To discover and connect to your Visio device and to help you set up the device’s network, the App: uses LAN mDNS to discover devices; reads the current Wi-Fi network name (Wi-Fi SSID) and this device’s IP address on that network to tell whether the phone and the device are on the same local network and to establish the local connection; joins the device’s Wi-Fi hotspot; and, when you actively provision a device, reads the list of nearby Wi-Fi networks and accepts the Wi-Fi name and password you enter. The Wi-Fi SSID and device IP address above are read only after you tap “Agree” to accept this policy, are used solely for the local link between phone and device, and are never uploaded to our servers. The Wi-Fi credentials you enter are likewise used only to be sent to the device to complete its network setup; they are not collected by us or uploaded to our servers.

1.3 USB device access (Android / HarmonyOS)

When you connect a device over USB, the App needs to access the relevant USB device interface to communicate with the device. This access requires your approval in the system dialog and is used solely for communication between the App and the connected device.

1.4 Storage and recording files

When you use the recording feature, the App writes the audio, video, and sensor data from the device to your phone’s local storage as .mcap files, for local viewing and later upload. You can view or delete these files within the App at any time.

1.5 Device and diagnostic information (crash and error logs)

To maintain and improve the App’s stability, the App integrates the third-party crash-reporting service Sentry. When the App crashes or encounters an error, it may collect diagnostic information such as the crash stack, error logs, app version, operating-system version, and device model. We redact this data before it is sent (for example, access credentials in object-storage presigned URLs are removed before transmission) and collect only allow-listed, necessary logs, used solely to locate and fix problems. We do not use this to collect your recordings or your location.

1.6 Locally stored device list

So that you can reconnect to devices you have used before, the App keeps a “remembered devices” list (such as device identifiers and device names) locally on your phone. This information is stored only on your device and is not uploaded to our servers.

2. Cookies and similar technologies

The App is a native mobile application and does not use browser cookies. We use the phone’s local storage (such as AsyncStorage) to keep necessary app settings and the “remembered devices” list described above, in order to keep the App working.

3. How we share, transfer, and disclose your information

We do not sell or rent your personal information to any third party. Your information is transmitted to other parties only in the following cases:

3.1 Upload to the object storage you configure, at your direction: when you enable cloud upload, recording files are uploaded via presigned URLs to the object storage you configure yourself (such as Alibaba Cloud OSS). That storage and its access credentials are under your control, and you decide where the data goes; unless you point it at a bucket we provide, we do not receive this data.

3.2 Third-party crash-reporting service (Sentry): as noted above, diagnostic information is transmitted to Sentry for crash analysis. Sentry is provided by Functional Software, Inc. (Sentry), and its handling of data is subject to its own privacy policy.

3.3 Disclosure required by law: we may disclose your information where required by laws and regulations or by lawful requests from judicial or administrative authorities.

4. Third-party SDKs / services

To provide certain features, the App integrates the following third-party services, whose data collection and processing are governed by their own privacy policies:

Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) — crash and error reporting; data types processed: crash stack, error logs, app/system/device information.

The object-storage service you configure (Alibaba Cloud OSS by default; ultimately as configured by you) — stores the recording files you choose to upload.

5. How we store and protect your information

Storage location and retention: recording files are stored locally on your phone by default; once upload is enabled, they are stored in the object storage you configure, with retention under your control (you can delete local files in the App, and local copies may be cleaned up automatically after a successful upload). Diagnostic information is stored and retained by Sentry in accordance with its policy.

Security measures: we take reasonable and necessary technical and organizational measures to protect information — for example, communicating over local links (USB / LAN) by preference, redacting sensitive credentials from crash reports, and using encryption for relevant network transmissions. Please understand, however, that the internet is not a perfectly secure environment; we will do our best to protect the information you transmit.

6. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the following rights over information related to the App:

6.1 Access and deletion: you can view, manage, and delete recording files stored locally on your phone within the App; for files already uploaded to your object storage, you can delete them yourself from your storage console.

6.2 Withdrawing permissions: you can turn off the App’s location, local-network, USB, and other permissions at any time in your phone’s system settings. After doing so, features that rely on a given permission may become unavailable, but other features are unaffected.

6.3 Changing where data goes: you can change or remove the object-storage configuration in the App to control whether recordings are uploaded and to where.

If you have difficulty exercising these rights, you can contact us using the “How to contact us” section below.

7. Protection of minors

The App is intended primarily for users of professional capture devices and is not designed for minors. If you are a minor, please read this Policy under the guidance of your guardian and use the App only with your guardian’s consent. If we discover that we have collected a minor’s personal information without guardian consent, we will seek to delete that information as soon as possible.

8. Updates to this Policy

We may revise this Policy from time to time. The updated Policy takes effect and replaces the prior version once published on this page; if a change materially affects your rights, we will notify you by an appropriate means. Please review the latest version of this Policy periodically.
